Moses
Village Chief
“I want the camp to provide a wonderful opportunity for visitors to find out about our community. I am excited as I will be part of sharing our culture with others; I teach visitors about how young men become warriors, and share my own experiences of my years in the bush.
I hope every visitor wants to accompany me on early morning walks so I can show them how we live among some of the world’s rarest animals. These walks provide guests with the chance to see them whilst they are still active before the heat of the day. Early outings provide visitors with wonderful photo opportunities, which are very different from those afforded when in a car.
I have responsibilities to my community and want to be able to develop accessible schooling and access to healthcare. Sustaining and developing the camp will allow the community to flourish, whilst creating lifetime friendships with the visitors who come to share our time honoured traditions – not as tourists, but as friends.”
Joseph
Lead Guide
“ I am assistant to Moses. I am a qualified driver, guide and a naturalist, and I am experienced in tracking animals. I am also a cook. I am fluent in English, which is helpful, especially when teaching guests some Maa words, and interpreting our cultural traditions for guests.
Taking guests on walks around the camp or on game drives into the Maasai Mara game reserve are something I really look forward to every time we have visitors. I am an experienced Mara guide and am used to finding the animals and deciphering their behaviour for our guests.
I always look forward to welcoming guests to the camp, as it offers them the chance to experience the heart of the Maasai rich culture, and also to understand the hard lives that some communities endure. It fosters greater understanding across the world. Our ecocamp provides work for the jobless, uplifts our local community and supports some of our plans for the future.”
Unbelievable Experience
We had such an unbelievable time at Ilparakuo with Moses and the community. It was fascinating learning so much about the Maasai ways and their culture.
Experience of a Lifetime
Our stay at Ilparakuo Ecocamp in Kenya was an experience of a lifetime. Truly we can't thank Moses and Joseph enough for making us feel more than welcome. The walking safaris are an experience not to be missed.
